“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” - Mahatma Gandhi

WHAT DOES A HEALTH COACH DO?

  • co-creates an equal partnership with the client out of curiosity, respect, willingness to learn, and trust in one another, as well as the change process

  • enhances the life of the client, as opposed to diagnosing, by healing the present and future through small steps toward a meaningful wellness goal

  • bridges the gap between medical recommendations, the client's understanding, and engagement in making health behavior changes

  • provides the framework to enable the client to explore their true motivation for change, and allows them to name their personal wellness goal

  • works with a client-driven agenda for reaching their wellness goal, with the core belief the client is the expert on their own life, while the coach is an expert on behavior change

  • holds the client accountable for achieving their wellness goal while providing a non-judgmental, safe environment for the client’s learning, experimentation, and transformation

  • celebrates all the client’s successes, including the self-discovery of what does not work

The client is in the driver’s seat, and the coach is riding shotgun with the road map.

The coach partners with the client to determine their destination, and the best route there.

There will be traffic jams along the way, but the coach is there to help the client get back in the fast lane.

WHAT IS THE COACHING PROCESS?

  • requires open, honest, sincere, and confidential communication between the coach and the client

  • understands each client is unique, allowing the journey to be autonomous and natural for the client

  • starts with two important questions, what is your vision of a vibrant, healthy you? and what is most meaningful to you about your health?

  • honors a whole-person, holistic approach, which considers more than vital statistics, but also the client’s body, mind, spirit, and community, and how these entities are interwoven

  • allows the client to determine what is most important to their whole person by looking at their current and future desired health

  • regards health behavior change as a step-by-step dynamic exploration towards a meaningful wellness goal, rather than a static being or finish line

  • utilizes a progress-oriented model, with the intention of the client gaining clearer insight, taking action, and learning what works and does not work in real life, requiring adjustments as needed

The coaching process is a non-linear journey of Chutes and Ladders.

The difference being everyone is a winner for participating.
