What is the Health Coaching Process?

The health coaching process is best described as a non-linear journey. I like to envision it as a game of Chutes and Ladders. The difference being everyone is a winner just for participating. The coaching process requires open, honest, sincere, and confidential communication between the coach and the client. There is an understanding each client is unique, allowing the journey to be autonomous and natural for the client. The journey begins with two important questions, what is your vision of a vibrant, healthy you? and what is most meaningful to you about your health? This foundation allows the client the determine what is most important to their whole person by assessing their current health and well-being, and how the entities are interconnected. Behavior change is a step-by-step dynamic exploration towards a goal that is meaningful to the client. It is not a static being, and there is no finish line. As the Greek philosopher Heraclitus said, “the only constant in life is change”. Health coaching utilizes a progress-oriented model, with the intention of the client gaining clearer insight, taking action, and learning what works and does not work in real life, requiring adjustments as needed. A setback is still a win because the client stepped into the arena, and is stepping out with the knowledge of what is needed to step back into the arena better equipped.

Be well,

Sarah
